WHAT STONE?

Breaking Barriers

Mark 16:3-4 NLT

“On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.”

Hey Fam,

I was driving today and found myself deep in thought as I became frustrated looking at everything that seemed too difficult or too big for me to handle. Can I let you in on something? You can have faith and yet find yourself having temporary moments of frustration, especially when you lose sight of who can handle whatever is consuming your thoughts in the first place. It’s easy for us to look at what serves as a barrier and fixate on the barrier before we ever even get to see the promise.

I began reflecting on a passage of scripture found in Mark 16. Let’s paint the picture a little. This particular scene is following the crucifixion, death and burial of Jesus Christ. Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome were going to the tomb where Jesus was buried to anoint him with spices. As they went, we see a brief moment where they began to wonder who would roll the stone away. In verse 3 it states,

“On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”

~Mark 16:3 NLT

Just like that, we too may have a passing thought that may sound like: How will these bills be paid when I don’t make enough money? How will the door open if I don’t meet the qualifications? How will my family be saved when they won’t even read their word, pray or want to hear anything about Jesus? How will the city change when gun violence is at an all time high? How will I break generational cycles when the same challenges keep showing up? Fam, can I encourage you today? Whatever stone serves as a barrier in your life and consumes your thoughts, it has already been taken care of fam! Just go, and SEE! In that same passage of scripture it states,

“But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.”

~Mark 16:4 NLT

Don’t worry about stones that are serving as a barrier in your life. No stone (even those that seem huge or heavy) will stand a chance when it comes to what God can do. He can remove the barrier, the hard thing, the thing that’s blocking you from seeing. The next time you find yourself fixating on the barrier say out loud, “What Stone?” There is NOTHING too hard for our God, not even the stones people may have thrown at you and your family. God is faithful to fulfill HIS promises.
